Overview of our visit to Andorra La Vella with a child

We drove about 3.5 hours from our beautiful vacation apartment in French Occitania to Andorra La Vella, the capital of Andorra. Here you can find our tips and the best sights for a day trip with children to Andorra La Vella.

Andorra is a principality located directly in the Pyrenees between Spain and France. With a population of just under 80,000, Andorra is one of the dwarf states of Europe.
As there are no train, bus or flight connections to Andorra, it is one of the most difficult countries in Europe to reach.
Andorra La Vella is a small and traffic-calmed town and therefore great to explore with a baby or small child.

Andorra is primarily known as a tax haven, as only 4.5% tax is charged here. Many tourists come here to store and buy tobacco and alcohol. But beware! There are numerous checks at the border to ensure that the permitted export quantity is adhered to!
As Andorra is located in the Pyrenees, the country is particularly popular for hiking and winter sports.

Our impressions of the capital of Andorra

We only spent one day in the capital Andorra La Vella. We liked the city on the whole. However, the old town is really very small, so half a day is enough to explore everything.
The city center consists mainly of the shopping street with numerous luxury stores and tobacco and alcohol stores.

In my opinion, the city has nothing special to offer, but (!) it's still worth coming here, as the drive over the serpentines through the Pyrenees was simply fantastic!
You can choose the faster way to the capital through a tunnel (but this is chargeable) and you miss the gigantic landscape! I therefore recommend taking the longer route through the Pyrenees!

In Andorra La Vella, you can visit the 18-storey Caldea thermal baths, which are located right in the city center and are one of the largest wellness oases in Europe. Right opposite the Andorra La Vella thermal baths is a beautiful playground, which is an ideal stopover with a small child.

Family friendliness and accommodation

We spent an inexpensive night at Hostal Al Forner, which is located right in the city center . We had a room with a double bed and a private bathroom including toilet, as well as a small balcony.
There is a bakery on the first floor of the building, which we can recommend. We had breakfast here in the morning.
We paid €57 per night.

Andorra La Vella is a small town that largely consists of a pedestrian zone. Andorra La Vella is therefore very easy to visit with a small child.

As Andorra is only accessible by car, there is a major parking problem here. Some of the streets are very narrow and everything is parked up. We didn't even have the opportunity to stop just outside our accommodation to unload our luggage.
But there are lots of garages here.
Look for a garage near your accommodation in advance!
